Albert Einstein once wrote, “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” The second part of his quote is our ethos.
We are The Fellowship of Science: a science-based, non-theistic religion founded for beings who want meaning, community, moral direction, rituals, symbols, life guidance, and a way to face mortality without supernatural claims or requirements to believe in gods, deities, souls, spirits, or sacred revelations.
The Fellowship of Science is not merely a science club. We are a serious religious community built around evidence, reason, compassion, humility, health, cooperation, and the shared project of reducing suffering and fostering flourishing. We treat science not as a decorative theme, but as the foundation for how we understand the universe, the body, the mind, morality, community, health, death, and the future.
Our purpose is to help beings live with greater clarity, dignity, discipline, connection, and responsibility. We provide a moral framework through our Guiding Principles, identify Threats to Thriving that can damage well-being, cultivate evidence-based rituals and practices, encourage health-promoting ways of living, and build community among beings who seek truth through evidence rather than through inherited dogma.
We do not claim that science answers every question, and we do not pretend that all uncertainty has been resolved. Instead, we hold that honest uncertainty is more sacred than false certainty. We revise our views when better evidence appears. We value skepticism, but not cynicism; compassion, but not gullibility; humility, but not passivity; and progress, but not at the cost of unnecessary harm.
Some of our central goals are to foster flourishing, reduce suffering, promote scientific literacy, strengthen social connection, support health and well-being, encourage ethical action, and help beings become wiser over time. We aim to create a community where members can learn, practice, gather, reflect, support one another, and participate in meaningful traditions grounded in what is real.
The Fellowship of Science is new and currently small. It was founded in September of 2025 by Nick Afanasiev, who currently serves as the Founder and Director of The Fellowship of Science. Although we are at the beginning of our development, one of our long-term goals is to grow into a major non-theistic religion: a serious, evidence-grounded community for beings who want the depth of religion without superstition, the moral force of fellowship without dogma, and the pursuit of truth without fear.
We are The Fellowship of Science.
